Charity Begins at Home
Paul Mitchell Schools Raise over $85,000 for Local Charities
Paul Mitchell the School Michigan Donates $3,192 to Cass Community Social Services
In the past 13 years, the international network of Paul Mitchell cosmetology schools has raised and donated over $16.7 million to a variety of charitable organizations, including $1.1 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, $1 million to Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, $585,000 to the Gary Sinise Foundation, $370,000 to Habitat for Humanity, and $850,000 to Food 4 Africa, to name just a few.
Many Paul Mitchell schools also chose to pledge a portion of the $1.5 million they raised in this year’s FUNraising campaign charities in their local communities, donating more than $85,000 in 2016. Paul Mitchell the School Michigan donated $3,192 to Cass Community Social Services.
One of the reasons I became a Paul Mitchell school owner was because they have a culture of giving back. I truly believe if you set up a giving plan instead of an income plan you will be financially successful. The best way for a person to build a clientele – or a following – is to give back to their communities – help an organization in need and you will have a friend for life. When you sow into others, you grow. I am on the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation board of directors, and we intentionally choose the National Charities to be non-profits that have very little administrative costs, and I have personally witnessed first-hand the many humans that have benefited from these charities to include Children’s Miracle Network as well as Food 4 Africa. The local charities my leaders choose are hand-selected to include not only foundations our staff and future professionals have been blessed by, but foundations that are making a huge difference to create change in our community.
“We strive to be good neighbors, good citizens, and good contributors in every community where we have a Paul Mitchell School,” says Winn Claybaugh, dean and cofounder of Paul Mitchell Schools. “When it comes to charity, some people donate money, and some people donate their time. We do both.”
With over 100 schools across America, plus international schools in Slovenia and Taiwan, Paul Mitchell Schools have always been active in their local Boys and Girls Clubs, toy drives, senior centers, and other community events. Each year, hundreds of students cut hair and help out at Mother’s Day and back-to-school events at the Fred Jordan Missions in Los Angeles’s skid row, attended by thousands of women and children. Every winter, students and staff members all over the country pamper and bring holiday cheer to nursing homes and senior centers on “Ann Bowler Day,” a Paul Mitchell Schools’ tradition that honors senior citizens. On 9/11, Veterans Day, and other holidays, students and staff members hold special events and fundraisers to honor their community’s first responders, military service men and women, and police and firefighters.
